Free medical Camps CMF has and will continue building on its over 12 years experience in healthcare provision through medical camps in different parts of the country. The free healthcare involves partnership with drug companies and people of good will to donate the key supplies for the success of individual camps. Our role as the camp administrators involves mobilizing medical personnel from public and private practice and also to requisite drugs in relation to the target areas. We rely on a committed membership composed of Christian doctors, dentists, medical students, nurses and other health providers of diverse specialties who are committed to provision of voluntary services as part of their contribution to the society. We have successfully conducted medical camps in Nairobi suburbs like Mukuru, Kibera, Kawangware, Umoja and Mathare. Other beneficiaries out of Nairobi include, Esonorua in kajiado north, Kajiado North, Western Kenya, Baringo, Marsabit, Bungoma, Moyale etc Free clinic services in slums Members of CMF occasionally find time to provide free consultation in clinics that are established within the underprivileged communities. The initiative gives doctors an opportunity to provide free medical service in clinics which are otherwise run predominantly by nurses or clinical officers. Our members have been involved in the Tumaini clinics as part of their giving back to the society Mentorship programs For the sake of posterity, CMF is keen on developing medical students from medical school to when they become doctors. Through programs and activities tailor made to develop students professionally and spiritually many students and young doctors have benefited tremendously from the numerous local and international events run by CMF. We actively participate in national, regional and international events that expose our members to the global trends in both professional and spiritual matters. Some of the activities and events include: Monthly fellowships, Small group family fellowships, Saline solution program, quarterly meetings for students, annual dinners, annual retreats, business and scientific conferences/seminars, regional International Medical and Dental Association conferences and International Conferences. Emergency Medical Training CMF) is actively involved in training of healthcare providers in emergency courses such as Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Trauma Care(ATC) and Advanced Cardiac Care (ACC). The program is a collaborative effort with Medical Education International (MEI) as the capacity developing partner in terms of human and material resources. The program which was started in 2003 has since seen CMF offer these critical emergency courses to individuals, public and private health institutions in Nairobi, Mombasa, Eldoret and Kisumu. Whereas ATC course provides the health providers with safe, reliable method for immediate management of the injured patient and the basic knowledge necessary to effectively and systematically deal with emergencies, thus enhancing survival rate; ACC and BLS equips the health provider with resuscitation interventions for a patient in respiratory or cardiac arrest with the skills to support and restore effective oxygenation, ventilation and circulation with return of intact neurologic function. The courses equip the participants with Life Saving knowledge and skills to competently manage and stabilize patients by doing the following:- Assess the patient’s condition rapidly and accurately Resuscitate and stabilize the patient on a priority basis Determine if the patient’s needs will likely exceed facility’s capabilities Arrange for the patient’s interhospital/ intrahospital transfer Assure that optimum care is provided each step of the way Performing BLS primary survey Performing ACLS Secondary survey THE IMPACT Improves knowledge of health providers Psychomotor skills in resuscitation Confidence/performance of doctors Retention of organizational/procedural skills for 6 over years Documented improved care/ reduced morbidity/mortality in injured patients Ability to competently handle cardiopulmonary emergencies Over 1000 doctors, nurses and clinical officers have benefited from these programs. Some institutions that have tapped into these programs include: Kenyatte National Hospital, Aga Khan Nairobi, Agakhan Kisumu, Nairobi Hospital, Mombasa hospital, Moi Teaching and Referral hospital, Nairobi University Medical school, Pandya hospital, MP shah hospital, Mariakani cottage hospital, Mater hospital, CDC/Kemri Kisumu, AAR, Amref, Central Bank of Kenya, UN health services, New Nyanza General hospital, Kijabe mission hospital, and many other private and public health institutions in Kenya and Uganda. Internship Programs CMF in conjunction with CHAK (Christian Health Association of Kenya) and Linking hands facilitate internship and elective placement for medical students locally and abroad. The international students are usually seconded by Linking hands, an organization that helps international medical students to link with health institutions where they can do their internship. CMF is part of the local organization that helps settle the respective students especially in mission hospitals. |
